A low poly western train station inspired by the environments of Red Dead Redemption. The idea for this asset came from a plan to create a full western town over time, where I wanted to make several assets myself to practice 3D modeling. I made a list of assets I could build myself, and a train station was among them. All the assets I've made so far in my learning journey have been small props or simple characters, so I felt I needed to challenge myself with something larger, even though it is still a simple low poly asset. One of the biggest challenges for creating this model was ensuring it had acceptable topology without n-gons or stretching. The topology is also what I believe to be the asset's greatest weakness, as it's not as clean as it should be, particularly in the space around the windows. If I were to remake this asset, I would think more strategically with how to clean up n-gons after cutting out the windows, as well as where to place edge loops since I do believe I went overboard with them this time. I would also make more decorative assets myself to enhance the environment. The model was built and textured in Maya, with additional changes made to both in Blender, such as an inner wall for the office and minor paint details on the platform and floor. The stairs are a separate piece from the station since I was unsure if I wanted stairs on both sides or just one. The environment was made in Unreal Engine 5.3 using additional assets acquired through Quixel Megascans, the Epic marketplace, and Cosmos by Leartes Studios.
