Western Gallows

Low poly gallows for a western town project. Most of the assets for this project were purchased online, but there are a few I'm making myself to both get more practice in digital sculpting and to add more models to my portfolio. I decided to make this one because it seemed like a step up in complexity from the previous assets I've sculpted, and it gives my portfolio another environment-related piece. The greatest challenge I faced while making this asset was learning how to paint in Blender. I had used Mudbox in previous classes, but I really wanted to learn Blender for projects after graduation. Blender feels drastically different from Mudbox, and I struggled to navigate the interface. The quality of my paint is still not as high as I'd like it to be and leaves much room for improvement as I continue learning the software. I did figure out how to make my own paint brushes from PNGs masks, which will undoubtedly be useful in the future. The model was sculpted in Maya, with subtle texture paint and rendered in Blender, then later added to an environment in Unreal Engine 5.

Initial sculpt. I didn't like how the rope looked once it was all put together, so I redid the rope to something more similar to the inspiration images.
